Implant Restoration
With continuous advancements in dentistry it is now quite simple to replace a missing tooth or teeth with implants. Utilizing a minimally invasive simple surgical procedure with local anesthetic a small titanium screw is placed in the site of the missing tooth and allowed to stabilize and heal. Once stable, a ceramic tooth similar to a crown is designed, fabricated and attached to the implant replicating the function and natural esthetics of the tooth.
TMJ (Jaw Pain Disorders)
When your jaw joints are not working properly, you may be experiencing any of these symptoms:
- Pain when the jaw is opened fully
- Tightness of the jaw (especially in the morning)
- Limited range of opening
- Clenching/grinding teeth
- Frequent headaches
- Noises associated with jaw joint movement (clicking, popping, crunching)
- Ear pain not related to ear infections
- Occasional “locking” of the jaw
- Ringing in the ears
- Chronic muscle pain of the head, neck, shoulders
A TMJ Disorder may develop for many reasons such as stress induced teeth clenching, missing or crooked teeth, overbite, teeth that fit together poorly, arthritis, or various head/neck injuries. Any of these conditions may result in a misalignment of the jaw resulting in its associated pain.
In many cases we can successfully and conservatively treat the symptoms associated with TMJ Disorders. To reach an accurate diagnosis and possible treatment option, our dentist would conduct a thorough dental and medical evaluation which may include X-rays and dental models of your teeth. Treatment options may vary from a simple bite adjustment to rebalance your bite, the fabrication of a customized bite splint, prescription of medication, and/or the addition of crowns to modify the shape and form of your teeth. The dentist will discuss these options with you at the time of your consultation appointment.
If you suffer from pain or discomfort and believe it may be related to your TMJ, please ask us for help. The successful treatment of many TMJ Disorder sufferers begins with gentle, experienced care.
Clear Tooth Aligners
Want to straighten your teeth but don’t want braces? Clear removable tooth aligners may be utilized in many cases to straighten your teeth with a specific focus on your “Smile Zone.” Dr. Dabbous has improved many smiles through the use of these customized tooth aligners.
FAQ
How often do I wear the aligners for?
For best results, aligners should be worn at least 22hrs per day allowing for time to eat, drink and brush your teeth.
How long does it take to straighten my teeth?
Depending on your case, it may range anywhere between 6 to 18 months.
How do the aligners work to straighten my teeth?
Every 2 weeks you are given a new set of aligners that you will wear for 22hrs a day and once they have moved your teeth for that specific stage, you’ll be given a new set.
Do I eat with the aligners in?
No. The advantage of the removable aligners is that you must take them out when you eat, thus eliminating any eating restrictions.
Will the aligners hurt?
Teeth will usually be sore for a few days after wearing the first set of aligners. Over the counter painkillers are usually more than enough to alleviate this discomfort.
Oral Cancer Screening
Don’t assume the painless, white spot in your mouth is nothing. It could be nothing or it could be something that may potentially threaten your life. Oral cancer is a well known problem, and it can start as an innocuous blemish or bump. Early detection is the key as oral cancer is very treatable in its early stages. Regular oral screenings during your regular dental checkups are important preventative measures, and our dentist is trained to spot and test for potentially dangerous lesions.
Things you should know about oral cancer…
- Smoking and heavy alcohol consumption are the primary risk factors for oral cancer
- Oral cancer is more likely after the age of 40
- Prolonged exposure to the sun is also a risk factor (lip cancer)
- Cancer may affect areas in the mouth such as the lips, gum tissues, cheek lining, tongue, and hard/soft palate
Symptoms may include sores that bleed easily and don’t heal, changes in color or texture of oral tissue, pain/tenderness/numbness anywhere in the mouth or lips, difficulty with speaking/chewing/swallowing, difficulty manipulating the jaw or tongue, and/or a change in the way teeth fit together.
A good rule of thumb is to discuss any noticeable changes in the oral cavity with no apparent cause with our dentist. Preserve your oral health and peace of mind by seeing our dentist regularly.
