Dental Exams
At your dental examination appointment our doctor will do a thorough examination of your teeth and anything associated to the oral cavity. This includes an assessment of the teeth, gums, oral soft tissue, jaw joint, surrounding muscles, and relative lymph nodes.
All notations and findings will be made in your digital chart to assist the dentist in creating a customized treatment plan that fits your dental health and cosmetic needs.
Cleaning
A professional dental cleaning is typically required every six months, unless otherwise indicated by the dentist. Normally a thorough ultrasonic scale and polish is required, but the dentist will confirm the type of cleaning depending on the condition of the gums and teeth.
Fillings
At The Dental & Oral Center we use the latest generation composite resin filling material which is a tooth colored filling providing excellent durability and natural appeal. With the newest composites today we are able to combine strong function with optimum esthetics without having to resort to the amalgam fillings of yesterday.
Crown & Bridge
Crown’s are typically full ceramic jackets that cover a tooth to restore it to full function with natural aesthetic appeal. Crowns are usually required after a root canal treatment for a specific tooth or when a tooth is extensively compromised by decay and/or multiple large fillings.
FAQ
What kind of crowns does the dentist use?
Our priority is natural aesthetics and function. With this is mind, we use full ceramic crowns cut and shaped through a computerized state of the art technology (CAD/CAM) and hand stained to look and feel like a natural tooth.
Are crowns painful?
With adequate local anesthetic, the procedure is usually pain free. There may be temporary sensitivity after the cementation of the crown/ bridge gradually fades within a week.
Root Canal Treatment
When the nerve inside the roots of the tooth are irreversibly inflamed or infected, root canal treatment is required. The dentist will clean and disinfect the roots and pack it with a material that seals the roots to prevent the tooth from future infection re-occurrence.
FAQ
Why choose The Dental & Oral Center for root canal treatment?
Dr. Dabbous uses a specialized advanced root canal instrument that effectively and accurately locates and removes the infected root in an efficient and sterile manner (utilizing tooth isolation techniques to avoid future infection.) Our approach has proven to have higher success rate and a lower chance of reoccurrence of infection.
I have always heard that root canal treatments are painful, what should I expect after treatment?
Many patients that require root canals come to see the dentist with quite a bit of pain due to nerve inflammation and infection. So their initial impression of the actual treatment is that it will be painful. However, with proper local anesthetic most root canals are fairly painfree. In addition, if the tooth is infected antibiotics can sometimes be prescribed to further alleviate the pain.
How many visits does it take to start and finish a root canal treatment?
Dr. Dabbous usually completes his root canals in one visit. Multiple visits may be required in some cases.
Wisdom Teeth
The average age for eruption of wisdom teeth is 18 years. Usually wisdom teeth will not erupt properly coming out crooked or partially out due to insufficient space in the upper and lower jaws. It is normally recommended that wisdom teeth be removed as they usually are impossible to clean properly, and have a high probability of resulting in gum infection and/or irreversible decay.
Depending on wisdom tooth position, they would either be extracted via simple or surgical extraction. Our doctor will advise you on the likelihood of which procedure is required and what it involves.
What should I expect after wisdom teeth extraction?
It is normal to have moderate discomfort in the three days after extraction. Simple anti-inflammatory medication is usually more than enough for pain relief during this time.
- Avoid spicy and acidic foods
- Avoid vigorous exercise
- Follow good oral hygiene to promote a healthy healing process
- Minimize spitting
- Avoid the usage of straws
Antibiotics are rarely required unless indicated by the dentist.
Gum Treatment
Your gums are an essential part of maintaining the health and appearance of your teeth. Gum disease is one of the main causes of tooth loss. Healthy gums should be pale pink and matt.
The following symptoms are an indication that you should seek our dentist for immediate intervention:
- Bleeding of gums when brushing
- Swelling of the gums
- Dark red gums
- Excessive tartar or plaque
- Pain/sensitivity to touch when eating, drinking or brushing
- Receding gums
Typical immediate treatment by our dentist may include a thorough scaling and polish of your teeth and gums, in depth oral hygiene and diet instructions, and possible application of oral medications.
Additionally, gum treatment many times involves cosmetic enhancement of your teeth. When assessing your smile, as part of your assessment the dentist may notice overgrown gums giving you a “gummy smile” and possibly shorter smaller teeth. At the time of your assessment the dentist will discuss options with you that may include laser gum shaping (Gingivectomy), crown lengthening, or possibly just a simple scaling and polish to rejuvenate your gums for a healthier smile.

It is The Dental & Oral Center’s ultimate goal to provide and maintain a pain-free full healthy smile for all our patients. Whether it is pain, infection, accident, broken crown, etc., our staff will do their best to fit you in the schedule so that our dentist may address your immediate need and work towards resolving your concern.
